February 16, 2007 – Taking place on Sunday April 22, 2007, the 14th edition of the Fuji Paris to Ancaster bicycle race is shaping up to be one for the record books. Already the largest one-day bike races in Canada, the 2007 event is expected to feature over 1,800 riders from beginners to elite athletes.

Participants from across Ontario as well as Quebec, Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania will be coming to Paris to participate in this unique point to point race. Whether they are competing for a top overall finish, an age group medal or bragging rights among a group of friends, the 2007 Fuji Paris to Ancaster has something for everyone

Three Canadian National team riders, including two reigning national champions are expected to challenge Mike Simonson, the men’s two-time defending champion from Detroit, Michigan.

National team member and 2006 women’s champion Tara Ross of Hamilton is expected to defend her title as well.

At the other end of the experience spectrum, we are pleased to announce a partnership with the Hamilton Cycling club to deliver the “Sprockids” Learn to Mountain Bike program for 8-12 year olds. Developed by BC’s Doug Detwiller and embraced as a national program by the Canadian Cycling Association, “Sprockids” is a fun, safe, skills based program that gives young cyclists a day of expert instruction in this exciting Olympic sport.

The traditional 60km race starting at the Green Lane sports park in Paris will be augmented with an improved 35km event starting in the village of St. George, rather than Harrisburg. Also new this year will be a free post race shuttle bus to both start lines, so riders without extra drivers can retrieve their cars.

Making use of a combination of unpaved and paved public roads, rail trails and no less than eight private landowners, the race has achieved a level of local support that is unprecedented in Canadian cycling. With the assistance of local organizations such as the Hamilton Hammerheads Triathlon Club, St. George Optimist club, Paris Volunteer Fire department, Brantford Sea Cadets, Hamilton Artillery Cadets and others, we are looking forward to the best Fuji Paris to Ancaster race yet.
