Canadian Heather Fuhr easily won Ironman Lake Placid yesterday in Lake
Placid, New York. Fuhr took the race lead at mile 6 of the run from Jackie
Hatherly and cruised home. Fuhr successfully defended her 2001 Ironman Lake
Placid title and has now won three of the four races in this event’s
history. This win as Fuhr’s 12th career Ironman title – second on the
all-time Ironman win list behind Paula Newby-Fraser’s incredible 23 wins.
Lori Bowden is third on the list with 10 wins. American Ryan Bolton won the
men’s event over Estonian Kirill Litovtsenko followed by veteran Ironman
competitor, Shingo Tani from Japan.
