Frostbike Ride for Education in Haiti – Jan. 29

release by Andreas Kloppenborg

January 27, 2011 – Andreas Kloppenborg, a University of Toronto student studying International Relations, embarks on an epic 290km ride from Kingston to Toronto, ON, Saturday, January 29 to raise money and awareness for education in Haiti through the Starthrower Foundation.

In the simplest terms, it is a long distance bike ride that follows a route from Kingston, Ontario to Toronto, Ontario (290k). I complete the route solo in less than 24 hours – this route is usually completed in 3 days. To make it more interesting, it likely be in -10 degree weather.

I chose to develop this kind of event because it is unique enough to differentiate itself from similar types of charity rides. So far, the Lance Armstrong Foundation has helped me develop the event with logistical support and merchandise donations. Other clubs from U of T, Queens, and Penn State University have joined forces to raise money too.

I am collecting pledges and hope to raise $1320 (the cost of secondary school for two Haitian students) for a Canadian Charity in Haiti – the Starthrower Foundation. So far I have managed to raise $1,100 and it’s rising fast. I plan to double my original goal, since donations are rising exponentially.

Regards,

Andreas Kloppenborg

The FrostBike web-site www.frostbike.ca can support all kinds of donations, and will be updated with Pictures and Videos during the ride.
