FQSC Release Regarding Alexandre Morin

February 19, 2007 – After three days of intensive searching, the body of Alexandre Morin was found Saturday, Feb. 17. Morin had been missing since he left to go jogging on Wednesday. His body was found buried under the snow beside a municipal garage near Côte de l”šÃ‰glise Road in the Quebec City suburb of Sillery.

It is not known what the cause of death was, but it seems unlikely that Morin was hit by a car, and more probable that he fell down the cliff above the garage. It is hoped that an autopsy over the nest few days will shed more light on what happened.

“We are all saddened by Alexandre’s death,” said André Michaud, president of the Fédération Québécoise des Sports Cyclistes (FQSC), the provincial body that governs cycling in Quebec.

Alexandre, 16, had a passion for cycling according to those who knew him. Among his various accomplishments in 2006 were finishing fourth in the Argon 18 Cup and fourth in the FQSC/Sports Experts classification for road racing.

The family is grateful for all of the support received from the many clubs and individuals who helped in the search or offered their support in other ways. Once funeral details are finalized, they will be posted on the FQSC website www.fqsc.net.
