FQSC Hires Mauricio Garzon as New Coordinator for Road, Track and Paracycling

March 19, 2013 (Montreal, QC) – The Fédération québécoise des sports cyclists (FQSC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mauricio Garzon as the new Coordinator for Road, Track and Paracycling effective April 2.

Garzon will be responsible for organizing road and track cycling events, as well as for the development of track cycling. His mandate also inlcudes implementing structures and programs for the development of road cycling at all levels.

“It is a real pleasure for me to join the FQSC team. This is an opportunity that I’ve been waiting for, for a long time. I’ll do my best to meet the FQSC’s objectives in the short, medium and long term,” commented Garzon.

Over the past 18 years Garzon has held various positions in the world of sport most notably as director of high performance in Bogota, Colombia, from 2000 to 2006, where he also served as road and track coach. He also coached a professional U23 road cycling team.

Always looking for improvement, he will soon complete his PhD in physical activity at the University of Montreal, adding to the training he already has which includes specialization in theory and methodology in sports training obtained in Cuba. He also has additional training from the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) level 3 in road and track cycling.

What are his main objectives for the 2013 season? “I want to contribute to the development of cycling in Quebec and position the FQSC as a reference base, both at the provincial and national level,” said Garzon. “I want to assure the development of the largest number of Quebec cyclists including their selection onto national team projects, allowing them to participate in international competitions.”

“We are very pleased that Mauricio is joining the FQSC. The experience he has gained during the many years he worked with the Colombian Cycling Federation will certainly enrich cycling in Quebec,” said the FQSC Director General, Louis Barbeau.
