by John Symon
March 25, 2013 – Robert “Bob” Lacourse, who held the Canadian road titles for the quarter-mile in 1947 and for 10 miles in 1948, died on January 31 at the age of 86 reports the FQSC. Lacourse was also a member of the national road team at the 1948 London Olympics. Apart from road cycling, he was also a distinguished track cyclist, winning 6-day races in Simcoe, Ontario in 1948 as an amateur in the company of Laurent Tessier. Later, as a professional, he took part in other 6-day races in Chicago, New-York, Washington and Montréal. After retiring as a professional racer, Lacourse opened a bike shop, Bob Cyclo in St. Jerome, north of Montreal.
“When we went shopping at Bob’s, it was not just to buy a bicycle for our kids; it was a pretext to pass time with this man,” recounts former Sainte Therese Mayor Élie Fallu on the FQSC website.
Pedal extends its sympathy and condolences to Lacourse’s family and friends.
