February 24, 2012 – The Paris to Ancaster Bicycle Race has taken place for the past 18 years over some of the roughest terrain organizers can find. Combined with unpredictable spring weather and the largest field of riders assembled in Canada, it has become a classic race experience for everyone from average riders to Canadian Olympians. The Paris to Ancaster Bicycle Race features two races: the 60km Paris to Ancaster race, and the 35km St. George to Ancaster race.
What: 19th Annual Paris to Ancaster Bicycle Race
Where: The 60km race begins in Paris, Ontario, at the Green Lane Sports Park. The 35km race begins in St. George, Ontario, at the South Dumfries Community Centre. Both races finish in Ancaster, Ontario, at the Ancaster Community Centre.
When: Sunday, April 15, 2012
Time: For the Paris to Ancaster Race, the First Wave leaves at 10:15 a.m. Second Wave leaves at 10:25 a.m. Third Wave leaves at 10:35 a.m. For the St. George to Ancaster Race, the start time is 11:45 a.m.
Official Ceremony: The official awards ceremony will take place at the Ancaster Community Centre at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2012.
Who: Mike Garrigan (Last year’s race winner); Roger Hammond (Former British Road Champion, and former teammate of Lance Armstrong on Team Discovery Channel); P2A Co-Chairs John Thorpe and Tim Farrar will also be on hand.
About Roger Hammond
Roger Hammond is an internationally known rider who’ll be taking part in this year’s Paris to Ancaster Bicycle Race. Hammond has won the British National Cyclo-cross Championship eight times, including five consecutive wins between 2000 and 2004. Hammond is also a two-time British National Road Race champion, and has earned two top-10 finishes in the Paris-Roubaix, the race that inspired the Paris to Ancaster Bicycle Race. In addition to his individual accomplishments, Hammond was also a teammate of Lance Armstrong on the Discovery Channel team.
