July 2, 2005 – The Ford-Basis Women’s Cycling Team is proud to announce the addition of 24-year-old Katharine Carroll to it’s 2005 roster. Carroll, in her second season of cycling comes to Ford-Basis as a strong all-around rider with an affinity for climbing.

Carroll, a Nashville, Tennessee native, graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2003. As a 1999 Gatorade High Schooll All-American Athlete, Carroll went on to play every game for and captain the Vanderbilt Women’s Soccer Team.

Now in her second year of racing this newcomer is picking up speed quickly. Team Ford-Basis added Katharine to the roster after her impressive 4th place finish in her first National Calendar event, the Joe Martin Stage Race.

“Katharine and I pre-rode the time trial course together at Joe Martin. I had never seen her before. I was so impressed (and not just because she climbed faster than me which often means very little). I offered her a place on the team right then. I think she thought I was joking,” says team director Nicole Freedman.

Freedman continues, “Katharine is a perfect fit for the team. She is strong, savvy, aggressive and most importantly a postive, genuine person. And, at 24, she even averages out my age.”

Team Ford-Basis, led by 2000 Olympian Nicole Freedman mentors riders who have their eyes on the 2008 Olympics. Katharine enjoyed the developmental aspect of the team which provides her with a comfortable environment to learn more about racing. The positive attitudes and senses of humor from her fellow teammates add to her experience. Katharine notes, “I also realized that having my profile on the team’s website would be a great way to get some dates.” (All dating proposals can be addressed to katharine@ford-basiscycling.com. “My immediate goals are just to learn how to race my bike,” says Carroll.
