October 04, 2018 – Former disgraced American road pro, Floyd Landis, 43, who was stripped of the 2006 Tour de France title and was also the Lance Armstrong whistle-blower, is reported to be launching a new Continental road team registered in Canada with legendary Canuck, Gord Fraser, at the helm according to the Wall Street Journal.

With Silber Pro Cycling soon disbanding after a five-year run the new team will also likely include a number of the squad’s former riders. Landis, who is using money left from the whistle-blower settlement, estimated at $750,000, said the new team would be geared towards helping young riders.

“I have a conflicted relationship with cycling, as everybody knows, but I still like it. I still remember what it was like to be a kid, and race on a domestic team. It was some of the best years of my life,” Landis told the WSJ adding he did not want to be seen as profiting from the whistle-blower affair.

Fraser, who raced with Landis on Mercury Team at one time, told WSJ, “Floyd’s passionate about cycling. I’d agree he’s had his ups and downs, but hopefully with this new step, he’s going to find the reason why he started racing.”

Floyd’s of Leadville Pro Cycling Team is the reported to be the team’s name which is Landis’ new company, Floyd’s of Leadville, currently with 50 employees, that sells legal hemp and cannabidiol (CBD) products (which do not contain THC, marijuana’s psychoactive ingredient) for therapeutic and active recovery use.

The new Canadian-based team is actually owned by Scott McFarlane and American Josh Saint and Floyd’s of Leadville will be title sponsor. The new team will be directed by Gord Fraser and McFarlane who commented, “It’s extremely important for the development of young riders to have Continental teams like ours acting as platforms for their progression to the next level of the sport; and to let Juniors and Cadets know there is a place for them to learn the skills necessary to become the next Mike Woods, Svein Tuft or Antoine Duschesne.
