Fireworks Finish!

December 30, 2003 – Oleg Grichkine and Ciaran Power of the Navigators Insurance Cycling Team  are finalizing their 2003 racing season list of palmares with victories in China and Ireland.  Oleg, currently racing with the Moscow City Sports Association (Russia National Team) has won three of the eight stages of the Tour Of The South China Sea thus far, including back-to-back wins in stages 4 & 5.  Currently wearing the Yellow Jersey, Oleg is 13-seconds in front of Kam Po Wong (Pocari Sweat Hong Kong) and 14-seconds in front of Brett Aiken (Bicisport Australia).  Oleg is also the current Points Leader. The race finishes up in Macau on January 1.

Following a Training Camp in Spain with the National Team of Ireland, Ciaran Power competed in the cold and wet Rás an Turcaí in Carraroe County, Galway, Ireland on Sunday, taking the victory.  In an interview with Shane Stokes (IrishCycling.Com), Power commented “I was very happy with how I was going yesterday, it was a good indicator (of fitness). I had only done one day of training since coming back from the Olympic training camp in Spain as I was starting to get sick. I had thought it was wisest to back off for a few days and recover rather than to keep training away and risk being ill for longer. I went yesterday, not knowing what to expect but I was very surprised. I felt fantastic, really good. I think I am going much better than last year,” he added.  Ciaran will be competing in Australia's Jacobs Creek Tour Down Under with his Navigators Insurance teammates starting on January 25, 2004.
