May 10, 2006 — Fernie Alpine Resort will kick off its summer operations on June 30th, and is excited to announce the first-ever Fernie Full Throttle Mountain Bike Festival, to be held at Fernie Alpine Resort, July 8-9, 2006.

What’s New This Season?

Featuring over 35 trails, from beginner through expert, Fernie Alpine Resort has something for everyone. To encourage more people to get involved in and enjoy the sport of mountain biking, Fernie Alpine Resort will launch a new green beginner trail this season. It will be a wider, flowing, easy trail winding through the cedars and forest off the Elk Chair.

Experienced riders will be pleased to see more development and enhancements on favorite trails such as Top Gun, Bin-Logg’d-In, Mono-Rail, Alternate Flight, Bicycle Thief, Aggravated Assault and Phat Larry’s. Improvements will include bigger berms, jumps, stunts, and added variations throughout the mountain.

Fernie Full Throttle Mountain Bike Festival – Entertainment And Activities For All

The local community, spectators and competitors are invited to the first-ever Fernie Full Throttle Mountain Bike Festival at Fernie Alpine Resort, July 8 – 9, 2006.

In celebration of all things mountain biking related, the festival will attract competitive and recreational riders of all levels. Hit one of Fernie’s famous trails for a ride, or sit back and watch some of the stunning riding feats and races!

But that’s not all – Enjoy the summer heat in the Kokanee Beer Gardens (open 11am — 11pm), browse in the Festival Marketplace, featuring local wares and shops, groove to live DJs and bands, or take part in a number of activities in the plaza area. A highlight will be the Downhill / Freeride competition that will take place on the mountain Saturday afternoon.

For the kids, there will be plenty of events to keep them entertained throughout the weekend, including a children’s bike parade and the Mountain Playzone.

Sunday’s activities will feature a bike shop showdown, where regional shops will be invited to send an employee and sponsored athlete team to compete against their peers for prizes and well-deserved bragging rights.
