March 7, 2011 (London Ontario) – The Forest City Velodrome hosted its 2nd annual Youth Championships on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 5) at the 138m indoor Forest City Velodrome in London Ontario. Fifty two (52) riders registered from all over Ontario to contest the eight divisions of athletes.
The Ontario Cycling Association supplied three commissaires for the event, special thanks to Anne, Ed & Steve plus the regular FCV volunteers for their timing and scoring of all the racers throughout the event.
The FCV will make modifications to the event for next year to accommodate the large number of riders – each division had 8+ entries. The format of the day was individual timed events to accommodate the many new track racers from the National Cycling Centre Hamilton.
The 3-event Omnium included a standing start 500m, standing start 5 laps and a bit, and the final event was a flying lap where all of the kids like to show off their speed.
At the end of the night of hard racing a Pizza Party had all the young athletes talking about how fast they were during the event. The next event at the FCV is scheduled for Saturday March 26th at 7pm. All age groups will be competing.
