FCV Training Camp – Report

release by the Forest City Velodrome

February 16, 2010 (London, ON) – A total of 25 track cyclists had a hard day of training at the Forest City Velodrome in London on Monday afternoon. A special tank you to the Ontario Cycling Association and Ontario Trillium Foundation for making the series of 12 Camp leading up to the summer road season and National Track Championships in 2010.

The 138m Velodrome continues to develop track athletes ready to compete on both road and track. The skills portion of the camp on Monday centered around balance and riding as slow as possible to make other riders have to un-clip. During the drill even the quickest riders at the FCV were having trouble going slow enough to match the balance of young 15 year old racer Daniel McKenzie-Picot. Daniel was able to just crawl on the blue line and made many of the elite and masters have to un-clip.

The riders had several very tough drills including a 1,200m drill that many riders had a hard time figuring out how to balance their speed, strength and endurance. In the end all the riders were able to conserve enough and light up the speed at the end of the 45 segment of the camp.

The riders finished the camp off with a race strategy skills session that included riders having to work as teams to work over their fellow competitorsŠ. In the end all the riders were able to come up with a strategy to out fox their opponents.

The next in the series of development camps at the FCV will be this weekend, Saturday February 20th “Madison introduction and skills”. There is room for 20 riders. For Cadets and Juniors come early and take advantage of the Youth training session at 3pm on Saturday.
