EVA/Devinci Season End Report

October 17, 2007 (Saguenay, QC) — Team EVA/Devinci finished a satisfying first season with several victories including the junior Canadian track and road championship by Stéphane Cosette and the Quebec elite road and individual time trial won by Mathieu Toulouse. Toulouse also placed third at the Montreal/Quebec race and Raphaëlle Chrétien is the new Quebec junior female champion. The team was called to the podium seven times at the Canadian championships, a notable performace.

The season started on April 14th with Mathieu Roy’s victory at the Battenkill-Roubaix race in the US. Following this, junior David Maltais won the Classique Chlorophylle race. Guillaume Boivin, also a junior, took first place at both the Ste-Martine and Grand Prix de Saint-Raymond de Portneuf races. Eric Boily came in first at the Grand Prix de Charlevoix road race and finished second place overall at this competition, as well as taking second place at the last stage of the Coupe de la Paix. Janie Fortin and Gabrielle Duchesne also stepped onto the podiums in their respective categories at the Coupe de la Paix.

Two team members, Guillaume Boivin and Stéphane Cossette, were selected to the Canadian team at the junior world championships in Mexico. At this competition, Stéphane Cosette set a new junior Canadian record for his average time in the kilo. Both Boivin and Cosette also performed remarkably well at the Tour de l’Abitibi, as part of the Quebec team.

Team EVA/Devinci looks forward to the 2008 season with great confidence. The junior team will again be composed of young, regional talent whereas the senior team will be composed of racers from various regions.

In 2008 the team will not pursue UCI designation, but will have a full calendar of important races.
