November 27, 2006 — Cycling British Columbia is pleased to announce that Team Escape Velocity Cycling Club has contributed $2,000 to the Cycling BC FutureHeroes Fund. The Cycling BC FutureHeroes Fund is developed to acknowledge and financially support the next generation of cycling champions and help them achieve their dreams.
Keith Ryan, Cycling BC Chief Executive Officer stated, “FutureHeroes has been launched from the cycling community to benefit BC youth cyclists. This contribution from Escape Velocity is a very meaningful endorsement of FutureHeroes. The support of Escape Velocity will go a long way towards promoting the FutureHeroes Fund. Contributions from BC’s cycling clubs underscore the importance of FutureHeroes and its broad support within BC’s cycling community. With this contribution, Escape Velocity joins BC clubs Atomic Cycling and Team Coastal Cycling as contributors to the FutureHeroes Fund.”
Gordon Ross, President of Team Escape Velocity Cycling Club noted, “Escape Velocity is well recognized as a strong supporter of youth development, highlighted by our support for dEVo, our youth development team. FutureHeroes is an important initiative for cycling in BC, and is the kind of activity that can make a big difference to attract youth to cycling. Escape Velocity is very pleased to be a part of FutureHeroes.”
The Cycling BC FutureHeroes Endowment and the FutureHeroes Awards have been established to encourage, recognize and reward achievement in youth cyclists from BC. World Championship Bronze medalist Micayla Gatto was the first recipient of the FutureHeroes Awards in 2005. The FutureHeroes Awards are presented annually at the Cycling BC Annual Awards Gala.
