July 30, 2007 – Eric Smith from Alberta will be riding his first year as an espoirs with Volkswagen-Trek at the beginning of August.

After a serious fall at the 2006 Junior World Championships, Smith was unable to race during the first part of the 2007 season. But now that his rehabilitation is complete he will join the VW-Trek squad for August racing as well as the National Track Championships, September 6-9, in Dieppe, NB.

Smith has an impressive list of wins on his resume – 2006 Canadian junior time trial champion, and defending national titles in individual pursuit, points race, scratch race and kilo. Readers may also recall his prologue win at the 2006 Tour de l’Abitibi as well as his second place in the individual time trial and his three days in the leader’s brown jersey.

Prior to his accident, Smith finished 13th in the individual pursuit at the 2006 Junior World Championships and he is a tremendous acquisition for Volkswagen-Trek!
