February 29, 2012 (Toronto, ON) – Sporting Life has a great opportunity at our Bike Store in Toronto for an Assisant Store Manager. Report to the Store Manager, manages the selling team to ensure that customer service standards are maintained and all product and sales goals are achieved through the conscientious application of Sporting Life standards to achieve our mission statement: To be a retailer with Passion, Knowledge, Integrity committed to a relentless desire to improve our performance in creating the highest quality experience for all Customers and Staff.

Essential Functions

– Serves as a role model for all customer service standard
– Promotes the Sporting Life House Philosophy consistently in all aspects of the business
– Resolves customer complaints through excellence in customer service, and efficient follow up to ensure 100% customer satisfaction
– Manages the selling team with the objective of attaining location profitability targets through sales and the highest level of customer service
– Assists in the attainment of profitability goals by coaching and leading the management team in the achievement of their sales goals
– Motivates and leads staff regarding selling skills, store cleanliness, departmental job lists, health and safety practices, dress code, staff relations and compliance with Sporting Life policies and procedures
– Oversees training, ensuring that they are “experts” on the categories in their division and that the quality of training being delivered is effective in communicating the latest product trends, innovations and technologies
– Recruits and selects superior staff and assists with staff development through on-going coaching, succession planning, performance appraisals and fair and consistent leadership
– Assists in controlling payroll budget while maximizing the wage dollars spent and hours utilized through effective scheduling
– Adheres to Sporting Life guidelines in performing authorizations for warranties, repairs, returns and alterations
– Participates with the direction and control of opening and closing procedures and ready for business standards
– Controls shortage and loss ensuring all loss prevention standards are promoted and complied with by all employees
– Available for store related alarm calls
– Directs and implements division merchandise presentation initiatives in a timely manner
– Analyses market opportunities and feeds back input to buyers
– Performs other related assignments and duties as required

Skill Requirements

– Able to maintain the smooth operation of the store through the ability to function as part of a cohesive team
– 3-4 years of retail managment experience required
– Must have a passion for cycling and snowboarding.
– Comprehensive knowledge of bicycles, parts and accessories.
– Enthusiasm for serving public ensuring that all customers are cared for equally and in accordance with Sporting Life standards of professionalism
– Participative yet assertive management style; leads by personal example, coaching, teamwork, but not hesitant to make decisions and direct activities
– Excellent communication skills
