April 01, 2018 (Langford, BC) – Cycling Canada officials could hardly contain their excitement during the recent Canada MTB Cup XCO at Bear Mountain this weekend as the association is soon launching a Canada e-Bike Cup Series with most provinces already on board.
While no specific details were yet available, the schedule is currently being finalized and registration is opening soon. Officials believe the idea could go global and get more and more people interested in cycling which fits with Cycling Canada’s “Hop On” campaign.
With the first Canada MTB Cup XCO now in the can momentum is building. “We’re looking at inner city, MTB courses… e-bikes can go anywhere and virtually anyone can ride one. We are considering an e-bike gran fondo as well but we need to take things one step at a time.”
The e-bike industry is stoked as well with officials from Bosch and Shimano poised to get on board. “This is very exciting news,” said a Shimano spokesperson. “It’s great to see innovative cycling initiatives to get more people riding and having fun on bikes.”
