El Tour de Tucson

November 22, 2005 – Hundreds of cyclists of all abilities lined the streets of Tucson, Arizona, for the annual El Tour de Tucson. Riders set off in the early morning under chill temperatures – although after a few hours it was typical sunny, cloudless and hot Tucson weather.

Although the day is both a tour and a race, with the presence of top riders like Phonak’s Floyd Landis, former Postal rider Robbie Ventura, and former top Canuck Scott Price, the pace was fast and furious.

After 170km, the winner came in solo as local rider Curtis Gunn dropped Nathan Mitchell on the run in to the finish. The lead breakaway had established a healthy gap midway and managed to hold off the challengers, including a fiesty Landis.
