October 20, 2006 — Dominique Rollin, Canada’s current Road champion mused about his cycling career in an interview with Daniel Fertin.
What are your thoughts about the 2006 season and the team you rode with?
“After having the chance to work with Cyrille Guimard and Frédérique Delcambre, the two directeurs sportifs of Velo Club Roubaix, I realized many errors in my training program and my manner of racing. Once I made (this realization), it became easier for me race properly and to perform well.”
What did you appreciate about Velo Club Roubaix?
“I stayed in a house attached to VC Roubaix with access to all the resources that I needed for my training and a bike mechanic when he was there.
What disappointed you about VC Roubaix?
There was a lack of unity in the team, which was newly assembled in 2006 and we had to learn to ride together when most of the cyclists didn’t know each other. We did this eventually, but not until late July.
Why did you sign with Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada?
I decided to ride on the North American circuit to be closer to my home (near Montreal) and to conserve a contact with my sources of motivation. Besides, the (North American) style of racing suits me better; (they are) mainly technical circuits which allow me to better express my qualities.
Is your title of Canadian Road Racing Champion an advantage or disadvantage?
It’s more of an advantage because, even if other cyclists noticed me (and tried to beat me), I did get the respect of my competitors”¦During this season, I started to show that I merited my title and I hope to honour it as well as I can in 2007.
How do you see your career going?
For the present, the North American circuit suits me better, but I expect to be back in Europe within a few seasons according to the way my career is progressing.
