Doin’ It Green with Project Blue Sky

by Erin Carter

December 18, 2009 – I need help! Got any special plans over the holidays? How about helping to save the world … and of course the side benefit of showing Olympic superstar Dave Calder that we’re greener than him! Today, Olympic rower Dave Calder challenged me to a race and I need your help…ASAP!

This is a new kind of race, the kind that the less we do the more we will win! The race is to see whose group can generate more carbon reductions over the holidays through Project Blue Sky, an athlete-driven initiative to fight climate change www.projectbluesky.ca).

To help, all you need to do is sign up for project blue sky, join my group Doin’it Green, and start adding your carbon reductions. The race will go from midnight December 18 to midnight January 1, 2010. Remember to include all your carbon reductions, not just transportation (for example, LED Christmas lights and eco-Christmas wrap). Be creative, be inclusive, and tell your story!

Thanks for the support – and let’s show Dave Calder and his team Blue Sky, Clear Water what Doin’it Green is all about.

Happy Greening!

You may be asking yourself… What is Project Blue Sky?
Project Blue Sky (PBS) was inspired by athletes and built by students as a way to motivate individuals and groups to take steps in their personal lives to fight climate change. The project is supported by the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and aims to capture the imagination of individuals that have an interest in environmental issues, and have them track and capture their individual carbon reducing activities. The overall objective is to mobilize Olympic and Paralympic athletes to take a leadership role and to use the 2010 Games to shine a spotlight on the issue. The end result will be encouraging people from around the world to take action to reduce their carbon footprint by registering 1 billion kilometres of carbon reducing activity between now and the end of the Paralympic Games.
