Defi Sportif – Tandem Paracyclists Chalifour and Cloutier Win Twice

May 4, 2008 (Montreal, QC) — With two victories in the Defi Sportif, the tandem pair of blind cyclist, Daniel Chalifour (Team VW) and his seeing pilot, Alexandre Cloutier, picked up again where they left off in 2007. Last year, this same pair won three out of three tandem paracycling events at the Loto-Québec Road Race Classics of the Defi Sportif.

On Friday, Chalifour and Cloutier won the 52km road race over the tandem pair of Stéphane Côté and Pierre Olivier Boily (Sleeman) with the contest being decided by a sprint.

On Saturday, the Chalifour/Cloutier duo won the 17km time trial while once again, Côté and Boily came in second. The two hope to go to Beijing for the Paralympic Games from September 6-17, 2008

In the LC 1-4 categories, Mark Breton (LC 1), who won both the TT and the road race, is now ahead of Eric Bourgault (LC 2) in general classification. Both paracyclists should go to Beijing for the Paralympics. And hand cyclist, Rico Morneau (HC B), won both the TT and road race in his category.

Sunday sees the criterium and conclusion of the 25th annual Defi Sportif cycling events. The Defi Sportif is an international event that brings together 3,000 elite handicapped athletes from 18 countries for competitions in 13 sports. For more information visit
