May 26, 2003- With under a week to the Montreal World Cup (May 31), Pedal caught up with last year’s surprise winner Dede Barry, and also took a look at the bike she’ll be racing in Montreal. This year the Colorado native will be riding with the strong T-Mobile team.

Pedal: Dede, how do you feel going into the race with a stronger team? Certainly this year you are more of a favourite…

Barry: I am looking forward to returning to Montreal this year. It is one of my favorite races on the international calender. The course is challenging and the crowd support is excellent. It’s nice to have a strong team; it takes the pressure off knowing that we have six strong girls to start the race. Last year, I had several Canadian friends along the course cheering. This motivated me and gave me energy.

Pedal: How has your preparation going been for Montreal?

Barry: I finished University the first week of May, which took a big load off my shoulders. I’ve had more time to train, rest and relax since then. The past few weeks I have trained in Girona, Spain and I also raced the National Championships in Pennsylvannia last week. It’s been fun riding and I am feeling ready to roll. Montreal is an excellent city and it’s somewhere I really enjoy racing and visiting. I am going to have to fuel up with Montreal bagels before the race.
