COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 15) – USA Cycling has named Deborah Engen, a veteran of Olympic public relations and sport event management, as
Communications Director. Engen, who most recently worked on the Salt Lake
Organizing Committee for the 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, will
start her position immediately.

“We are fortunate to add someone with Deborah’s credentials and depth of
experience to USA Cycling,” said Sean Petty, vice president of marketing.
“She brings a great deal of enthusiasm, professionalism and new ideas to our
organization.”

Engen’s responsibilities will encompass media and public awareness campaigns
for USA Cycling’s athletes, event properties, athlete development programs
and membership services. She will also oversee the promotion of USA
Cycling’s National Championship events and NORBA racing series.

Engen, 32, who grew up in McCall, Idaho and graduated from Brigham Young
University, spent seven years working for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard
Association in Park City, Utah as Media Services Director and Public
Relations Manager. In her most recent assignment as Alpine Manager with the
Salt Lake Organizing Committee, Engen focused on elite athletic event
management. She also served as a press officer during the 1994 and 1998
Olympic Winter Games in Norway and Japan.

“I’m very excited to be working with USA Cycling’s new leadership,
outstanding athletes and active membership,” said Engen. “This is a great
opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to bringing my experience to the
position.

“USA Cycling has some very exciting messages to send to the public and
media,” said Engen. “With the extraordinary international success of USAC
athletes, and the exciting changes that Gerard [Bisceglia, CEO] is bringing
to member and athletic services, this is a great time to be involved with
the sport of cycling.”

Recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee and the Union Cycliste
Internationale, USA Cycling promotes American cycling through its 80,000
members and 2,000 annual events in the disciplines of road, track, mountain
bike, BMX and cyclo-cross.
