Cycling Petition Wrap Up

February 9, 2007 – You wouldn’t believe how long it took me to compile that list of email addresses.

I’ve been very busy since Christmas, but am ready to dive in and wrap up this cycling petition.

The online version at http://www.gopetition.com/online/10170.html now has over 3000 signatures, thanks largely to many of you.

I’ve written the M.E.C . stores who were having paper versions of the petition signed, and have asked them to bundle their pages up and send them to me here in Toronto. I did one “pick up” from the toronto store and that batch had 800 signatures alone.

I know that I sent the petition to many of you via email to have signed in your respective parts of the country. I’d like to ask you to hunt down one or two last signatures to completely fill out the signature box on your last page, and then stick all your pages in an envelope and send them to me here in Toronto – arriving before the end of February. I’ll then take ALL of the petitions, add up the signatures and try to write up some kind of summary report for Olivia Chow to use.

My address is at the bottom of each petition page, but for the record it is Chris Tomasini / # 3 – 130 Sackville Street / Toronto, Ontario / M5A 3E7.

P.S. just send them by regular mail – I’m never at home to sign for any packages anyway.

For any of you who have the energy and/or the time to do a little bit more work for this petition – here are two ideas for you. Send out a couple more emails asking friends to sign the online version (Ms. Chow will make reference to the online version when she presents the written version), and write your local newspaper, radio or tv station and tell them about the petition to try and drum up some media support.

And I think that’s about it! I’m kind of glad that this petition is coming to a close, but I very much hope that one of you out there is drafting up another one, and another one, and another one – so that the municipal, provincial, federal governments in Canada get so sick of hearing about cycling issues that they’ll cave and build us all the bike lanes we want!!!
