The cycling world was stunned and disappointed to learn that Jim Broomfield had passed away on March 5, 2003. An accomplished UCI commisssaire, and one of the most respected officials in Canada, Jim was the driving force behind the success of so many facets of the sport in Ontario including the Ontario Track Championships and Track League, and the Ontario Cup.

Part of the 'English Mafia' that helped build the sport in Ontario and Canada, Broomfield was a pillar in the cycling the community who understated his position at events while quietly orchestrating things behind the scenes to make everything work. Loved by all and respected by the riders across Canada and the United States, Broomfield was a founding member of the Canadian College of Commissaires. He was also a master carpenter and was passionate about model railways. A very generous man, Broomfield would help anybody in the sport of cycling, and his passion, dedication and humour will be sorely missed.

On Tuesday, March 12th, at 1:00 pm, a service will be held in Ottawa at Kelly Funeral Homes, 585 Somerset Street West. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Jim's memory are requested.
