June 22, 2004 – Calling interested BC Coaches: The CCA’s National
Development Coach, Kris Westwood, will be hosting a sports development forum
to coincide with the Road Nationals in Kamloops on June 26.
When: 9 a.m., Saturday, June 26
Where: Ballroom C, Best Western Convention Centre, Kamloops, B.C.
(road nationals meeting room)
Who: All interested cycling coaches
What: Presentation and discussion of development initiatives in 2005 and
beyond
It’s time to start looking towards the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. That
means our focus must turn to the development of our future star athletes. We
need to give our espoir and young elite athletes the tools they need to
perform on the world stage in Beijing. At the same time, we need to
nurture our
juniors so they will be ready to take over in 2012.
With limited resources, we need to find creative ways to accomplish these
goals, and we need to identify common goals we can all work towards. With
that in mind, Kris Westwood, National Development Coach for the Canadian
Cycling Association, would like to invite all interested cycling coaches to
a brief presentation of the development concepts and strategies he hopes to
implement in the coming years. This will be followed an open discussion to
critique these plans and come up with further ways of developing our future
national team members.
This session will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, the morning of the
criterium at the road nationals in Kamloops, B.C., in the Best Western
Convention Centre. Please contact me if you have any questions. I hope to
see you all there.
