April 04, 2013 (Ottawa, ON) – Cycling Canada announced today its revised organizational structure and the new employees that will fulfill the new or revised roles.
After a busy month of receiving and reviewing applications, followed by in-depth research and interviews, Cycling Canada is announcing its new coordinators, for both the high performance and domestic areas.
In the newly merged position of Road and Track Coordinator, Stephen Paiano will start his duties this month getting fully immersed for the upcoming season. Paiano comes from the Executive Director position at Triathlon Alberta and has a clear understanding of the sport development needs and the sport system in Canada.
Jennifer Mahoney will take on the new duties of the Off-Road Coordinator. Mahoney, who comes to Cycling Canada from Equine Canada as the Program Coordinator for Jumping, will manage and administer the logisitics of the Mountain Bike, BMX and Cyclo-cross programs at Cycling Canada. With previous experience working as a Program Coordinator with a National Sport Organization (NSO), Mahoney will quickly adapt to the newly created position.
On the para-cycling sport side, former Para-Cycling Coordinator Arnaud Litou has been promoted to Program Supervisor, and Andy Wilson, who up until now coordinated the CAN-BIKE program, will add to his current duties the Para-cycling Coordinator role. The promotion of Litou to the Supervisor role will allow him to focus on the top-tiered athletes and offer more support for key projects in the field.
All high performance coordinators and supervisors will report to the newly-hired High Performance Manager Kris Westwood, who will start his new duties on April 15.
Domestically, to share the high workload of the Performance Development Director, Mathieu Boucher, two new positions have been created, which will work in unison to ensure optimal development program implementation, and domestic, national and international event hosting.
In the position of Competitions Coordinator, Nicholas Vipond, who has been a reliable Coordinator for Mountain Bike & BMX at Cycling Canada, will take on new challenges in this new role. Vipond will be the main person ensuring the delivery of Cycling Canada’s eight Canadian Cycling Championships, the Canada Cup series for Mountain Bike and BMX, as well as Canada’s internationally-sanctioned races and events.
Filling the new position of Domestic Development Coordinator will be Elizabeth Kiraly, who comes to Cycling Canada from the Coaching Association of Canada. Kiraly will focus her efforts and knowledge on the administration, delivery and monitoring of the Cycling Canada LTAD model and the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). Both of these roles will require significant liaison with the provincial and territorial affiliated organizations.
These new changes will come to effect gradually over the next few weeks as Cycling Canada’s new hires transition from their previous positions to their new roles.
