November 10, 2005 – Mark James’ Fiasco held the second annual Cycling BC Awards Night Gala. Spirits were high as people started filling the room and soon enough we were spilling into other areas of the restaurant.

Kevin O’Brien MC’d the awards while people munched on appetizer pizzas and amazing pasta dishes with a slideshow of the Cycling BC staff and moved on to officially welcome Kevin MacCuish as our new Mountain Bike Manager. Then on to the awards with great biographies for each award winner while the presenters and the winners posed for photo opportunities.

The greatest surprise at the end of the awards was the International Youth Cyclist of the Year award, given to Micayla Gatto. With this award a new one was also introduced as the “Future Heroes: Cycling BC Youth Endowment.” This endowment gives a selected athlete funding towards future endeavors. Richard Juryn and Barb Zimich had the honour of awarding this incredible award to Micayla Gatto, who without even knowing she was winning the International Youth Cyclist of the Year award, stood in front of the crowd and gave a great acceptance speech.
