January 13, 2008 – Cycling BC’s Youth Team had its third camp yesterday. Nine riders between the ages of 12 and 16 came out for a safe and fun introduction to the BC Games Cycling events, with a focus on skills. The day looked like it was going to get the best of us, but all riders enjoyed a two hour clinic with little to no rain. This is our first stepping stone to building our programs from the ground up. Our numbers are increasing steadily, into the 20’s now, for our Youth Team list. We have a goal of getting over 100 new riders into the sport and showing them some of the basic skills that will stand them in good stead for the years ahead. All those who participated asked when the next clinic was going to be held. This is a great initiative, which has been started by Dan Proulx, our Cycling BC Youth Coach.
Thanks for all the support from the other coaches who were on hand to help out, and to the families for bringing the riders to this event.
We are looking forward to hosting a clinic in your community. If you can get three or more participants, we will come to your community and host a special Youth Team clinic. We would be pleased to provide clinics for schools, sport teams, or existing cycling clubs throughout the Province.
Email youthcoach@cyclingbc.net to register. The clinic is FREE.
