Cycling BC Proposes Application for $50,000 Line of Credit on Eve of AGM

November 29, 2012 (Vancouver, B.C.) – On Saturday, the Cycling BC Board of Directors sent an email to its members, proposing a special resolution to authorize a $50,000 line of credit.

This email was sent just a week before the provincial sport governing body’s AGM, scheduled to take place this Sunday, December 2 in Abbotsford.

“While we realise this is late notice, it would be irresponsible for the current board to not provide the necessary tools to the incoming board in order to ensure the proper functioning of the Society if these tools were needed,” reads the email.

“To ensure ongoing operations of the Society when cash flow is limited, be it resolved that the Board of Directors is authorized to open a $50,000 Line of Credit at the discretion of the Board, for the 2012/2013 calendar year.”

Cycling BC’s proposal to apply for a line of credit seems to imply the organization is may soon be in financial trouble, something many members have suspected for some time.

This development is just another indication of Cycling BC’s internal struggles that first surfaced in the public sphere over the Thanksgiving long weekend in October, when former Cycling BC Provincial Head Coach Richard Wooles’ job was put in question. Wooles has since been let go by Cycling BC, and as a result, a wrongful dismissal suit has been filed by Wooles before the Supreme Court of BC against Cycling British Columbia (CBC) the provincial cycling association. A central character in the Cycling BC controversy is Executive Director Keith Ryan, who, Pedal has learned may not be attending the AGM on Sunday, as he is officially on leave until Jan. 2/13.

With an expected turnout of 250 people it seems that Sunday’s AGM will likely be a turning point for the association and hopefully be a catalyst in restoring stability to the  province’s cycling governing body so it can move forward at serving the Cycling BC membership and the sport of cycling in B.C.
