Youth Development Coach – Job Overview
Cycling BC is the sports governing body for the sport of cycling in the Province of British Columbia. The association operates Provincial Team and High Performance programs under the direction of a Provincial Head Coach. The position of Youth Development Coach is responsible for the identification and development of high school age athletes. Specifically, the position is responsible for conducting outreach to middle and high schools in British Columbia’s secondary education system.

Job Responsibilities
The Youth Development Coach is a key youth development position within the Cycling BC Performance System in British Columbia. This position is responsible for identifying athletes who their who have a high probability of successfully representing BC in provincial, national and international competition, including the Canada Games, National and World Championships, Olympic and Paralympics Games.

The primary responsibility of this position is to deliver introductory programs in a high school setting; as part of the regularly scheduled physical education curriculum or after school program. Consequentially, the role will require the successful candidate to develop an effective working relationship with school district representatives, teachers, cycling clubs and trade teams. Specifically, the training and coaching of high performance athletes needs to be coordinates between all levels of development (Club, Provincial, and National) in a cohesive and effective manner so as to maximize the performance of the athletes.

Jeff Ain Appointed Provincial Junior Road and Track Coach
Ain will coordinate the road and track programs for 2011 with a focus on creating a pool of athletes to represent British Columbia for projects, including national championships and targeted international events. “We’re excited to have Jeff on board to help solidify our programs as the best in the country.” said Cycling BC High Performance director Richard Wooles. “He brings a high level of enthusiasm in addition to an excellent track record of youth development in both road and track disciplines.

Ain has an extensive background with junior development in British Columbia, running the Vancouver-based dEVo Youth Road Cycling Club, as well as the Burnaby Velodrome Youth and Junior programs. He has also led various provincial and national-level junior projects including Pan Am Games, Track World Championships, and National Championships where British Columbia ended a long medal drought in the men’s road race.
