March 31, 2009 – Here’s a selection of news updates from various provincial sport organizations, including Cycling BC, the Manitoba Cycling Association, and the Alberta Bicycling Association, with information about selection criteria, a race levy announcement, and a call for volunteer BMX Managers.
Cycling BC XC Mountain Bike Team Selection Criteria 2009 – National MTB Championships
Our goal is to develop riders who can go on to win the National Championships, and be part of the National Team for the Junior World Championships with the goal of being the best in the World.
To reach this goal, we will be selecting the strongest riders in the Province who have a strong possibility of winning our targeted events. We will provide them with preparation training camps and race support. Bianca Adolf, Evan Guthrie and Tyler Alison have been pre-selected, as all medaled at last year’s National Championships in individual events.

MCA Announces Race Levy
The Board of Directors of the MCA has approved a race levy for the 2009 season. The levy is $2 and will be applied to cup races and provincial championships for mountain bike, road and cyclocross events. The $2 will be used by the road and mountain bike committees to fund items like equipment, medical support, permits and commisaires.
ABA Seeks Volunteer BMX Managers
Application Deadline: February 10th, 2009
The ABA is seeking two volunteer managers to work with the BMX Performance and Development Teams. The Alberta Bicycle Association (ABA) is the recognized governing body of cycling by the Canadian Cycling Association on all aspects of cycling in Alberta, including BMX, Cyclo-Cross, Mountain Bike, Para-Cycling, Road and Track.
Task Description:
The managers will be responsible for with providing administrative support to the Performance or Development Team in the 2009 season. The ABA will cover the cost of for the Manager’s travel, accommodation and per diem. There will be no remuneration.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and knowledge in BMX. The successful candidate will have the ability to make recommendations regarding all aspects of logistics and to manage a team of youth riders. Strong consultative, facilitation and decision-making skills are required.
