Cycling BC Launches Sprockids Program

September 5, 2003 – Cycling BC, together with the Canadian Cycling Association is launching a unique program aimed at young, school-aged riders. The Sprockids program provides children with the opportunity to develop the skills, values and strategies that will benefit kids throughout their lives.

From a childs perspective, Sprockids is:
– Lots of FUN!
– Provides an opportunity to ride with others
– An exciting outdoor activity
– Is an introduction to cycling, leading to competitive cycling and a
lifetime    activity
– Physical activity
– An opportunity to learn cycling skills and received tangible recognition
of achievement,
– The foundation of cycling skills that can lead to participation in the
sport or pleasure of cycling.

From a parents perspective Sprockids:
– Is a fun activity for children to enjoy
– Provides physical fitness, and creates positive lifestyle habits
– An introduction to a life long sport which the whole family can enjoy
– Is a skills acquisition program, helping kids to become better, safer
cyclists through skill introduction and development
– Develops self-esteem, leadership and team work
– Is a life skills program, in which kids develop and learn a positive
philosophy, goal setting, problem-solving, decision-making, respect for
others, empathy, appreciation and responsibility for the environment!
