Utilizing Recovery for Optimum Performance Workshop – May 26, 7-9 pm Presented by Ben Sporer, UBC PhD candidate and PacificSport National Training Centre Consultant
All cyclists know that if you train hard you will see improvements in performance. This is especially true in the early development stages. However, as you progress, more training is needed, only to see smaller gains in fitness. Most often, the response seen among athletes is to train harder and longer. Rather than taking you to the next level, this could have a detrimental impact on your season as it leads to overlooking one of the key variables to enhancing performance….RECOVERY! Recovery is the most neglected tool for performance enhancement an endurance athlete has available to them.
This presentation will be focused on how to take advantage of recovery to optimize performance. It will discuss the various types of recovery and some of the reasons for its neglect. The role of recovery within and between training sessions will be discussed along with some of time frames for physiological adaptation and recovery. Examples will be given demonstrating the negative effects of under recovery on performance and strategies for monitoring recovery from training will be discussed.
Venue (both workshops): Sport BC, 1367 W. Broadway, Vancouver BC Cost: $15 per workshop for Cycling BC members, $20 per workshop for non-members To register: Sign up online at ) or click here to download the forms )
