October 09, 2015 (Vancouver, BC) – Cycling BC’s third annual Evening of Champions fundraiser gala welcomed 220 cycling enthusiasts and athletes to the Sutton Place Hotel in downtown Vancouver and featured appearances by notables headlined by the legendary TdF winner Greg Lemond. The 1986 yellow jersey wearer Alex Steida, Orica-GreenEdge racer Svein Tuft, former Olympic mountain biker Lesley Tomlinson, 1987 Pan Am Games bronze medalist Sara Neil, and retired Vancouver Canucks hockey star Trevor Linden were also in attendance along with many more top riders and guests.

The sold-out evening raised over $100,000 for the iRide school cycling program in British Columbia with the aim of offering the program to 25,000 school students in the next 12 months.

The evening also featured a reception, dinner, and both a silent and live auction with some great items, like a Greg LeMond Washoe bike painted in limited edition Cycling BC colours.

“Our goal is to create accessible programs to inspire more youth to take up cycling. With the funds raised we will be able to offer cycling programs to all schools in the province,” said Richard Wooles, Cycling BC’s executive director.

Current and future stars of the sport were also on hand, like 2015 Pan Am Games BMX gold medalist Tory Nyhaug, and speedy young BC road race brother and sister duo Gillian and Nigel Ellsay.

“We had a fun night and very lucky to have Greg join us,” said Wooles.
