The High Performance Committee operating under Cycling BC would like to notify all Junior Men of the following 2003 High Performance Project. Riders must have a racing age between 17 and 18 as of December 31st, 2003 – no exceptions.
Tour de l'Abitibi, July 21-27
Located in and around the township of Val-d'Or, Quebec, the Tour de L'Abitibi is perhaps the largest and most prestigious Junior Men's stage race in North America, and the only stop on the continent in the World Junior Challenge Series. Attracting teams from as far away as Holland and Japan, last year's roster boasted teams from seven countries, five provinces and two states. The eight-stage event covers a prologue, several road races, criterium and even a team time trail.
The 2003 Tour will build on the success of past BC Teams competing in the Stage Race, where in 2002, two team members were selected to represent Canada at the World Championships. Cycling BC hopes to recreate this success, and send several riders to the 2003 World Championships, being held in Hamilton, Ontario.
With a long history in high performance projects, Jeremy Storie, bigring54@shaw.ca, coach to many successful Juniors racers, has once again agreed to lead this project.
Interested Junior-aged riders should submit a brief race resume in the form of an email/letter expressing interest to Allan Prazsky, Provincial Coach, road@cycling.bc.ca to be considered and receive Project updates.
Over the next two months, 8 riders will be identified as long listed team members. The selection of these 8 riders does not have any bearing on the final 6 that will represent the BC Team at the stage race. The long listed athletes will enable several of the eventual team riders to race as a unit before the actual event. All riders will have to qualify through the identified selection process.
Upon identification, a series of training camps and races will be announced, allowing riders to form a union between each other.

Athletes do not have to participate in all selection events. They will, potentially, earn more points by doing more events. Athletes will receive at least one point for finishing a selection event.
Points from selection events will be distributed by the following scale. The placings pertain to BC Team candidates only, not to the overall finishing order of all entrants.

Rider Selection:
Four of the six athletes to be chosen for this Project will be based on points earned from identified selection events. The remaining two athletes will be determined based on “High Performance Sub-committee choice”. Final Team selection will be performed by the High Performance Sub-Committee.
