release by Cycling BC and the CCA

March 29, 2012 – Canadian Track Cycling Coach and Cycling BC High Performance Director, Richard Wooles, compiled a brief summary of interesting cycling news he has been involved with this month. Canadian Junior Racing in Europe

Nigel Ellsay is a Canadian junior cyclist who received the opportunity to race in Europe for French junior team Velo Club Cyclist Morteau-Montbenoit (VCCMM), which is based in the Jura region of France. Read all about Ellsay’s latest races below.

My second race in Europe, a Swiss Cup ended with a 7th place finish. I am now settled into my team house and am enjoying the lifestyle. I have come over for the season to race with Velo Club Cyclist Morteau-Montbenoit (VCCMM) which is based in the Jura region of France, a full-on Junior team with other international riders from NZ / Irleland and Swiss – what a place to learn to race with other like-minded Junior riders….

One of the great reasons for doing this is to gain valuable race experience in the European way, learn the lifestyle to better myself for the future and have fun racing with other Juniors week in week out….

So far, the French racing has really suited me with undulating courses. I hope to have a great season and will be returning home for a brief break from Europe to race the National Championships, BC Superweek and the Tour d’Abitibi. Thanks to everyone that has helped me get here, this is s dream of mine and I am lucky to have these chances…. À bientôt!

Cycling BC Spring Break Camp

Cycling BC Youth Development and the Surrey School District Dream Program partnered on a Spring Break Cycling Camp for youth in south Surrey

19-23rd March 30+ children – Two sessions a day for two hours each

The program overall was a great success.   Our most effective element was the incorporation of games and races into teaching sessions which all the kids loved.
