The camp was run over four days to combine with the Superior Glass 4 Day Race Presented by Wolfe Auto Group. Riders took part in a four to five hours of skills session each day, with talks and on the bike work led by Cycling BC Jeff Ain, along with Burnaby Velodrome coach Rachel Canning and various special guests speakers.
Camp participants were treated to special guests including Olympic team pursuit squad members Laura Brown and Jasmin Glaesser, Canadian Cycling sports science manager Andrea Wooles, and even a special guest talk by Garmin Sharp sprint ace Tyler Farrar. Topics covered during the camp included nutrition, recovery, race tactics, sports psychology, training methods, and even a long discussion on tire pressure!
The most exciting part of the camp was the racing! Youth riders raced for two nights over the span of the 4 Day race in front of sell-out crowds at the Burnaby Velodrome.
A big thank you to all the riders, parents and volunteers who helped make the camp a success. Also a special thank you to all the sponsors who made these camps possible through their support. A date over the high school spring break is being planned as the next youth camp.
