Cyclery Racing Renews and Revitalizes for 2018
release by Cyclery Racing
February 03, 2018 (Ottawa, ON) – Big changes are afoot for the Cyclery Racing program, one of Canada’s longest running women’s road teams. After 5 years as the Director Sportif Jenny Trew has moved on to become the Women’s NextGen Coach for Cycling Canada. This has opened the door to formalizing and deepening an already existing partnership with the NextGen program. While in 2017 three of the Cyclery team members were part of Cycling Canada’s NextGen track program, 2018 will see an additional two join the team.
The Cyclery Racing has long been a supporter of track in Canada, on several occasions fielding team pursuit squads at the National Championships. Team riders Annie Foreman-Mackey, Kinley Gibson and Ariane Bonhomme have graduated to the Olympic Performance Pool, but will be joined on the Cyclery by Junior National Road Race Champion Laurie Jussaume and Junior Track World Championships silver medalist Devaney Collier from the current crop of NextGen athletes.
In total there will be 5 members of Cycling Canada’s endurance track program on the team roster for 2018 – an exciting opportunity to pursue the synergies of elite road and track racing that have been successfully showcased by countries such as Great Britain and Australia.
The team is excited that Annie, Ariane, and Kinley will all represent Canada at the Commonwealth Games this spring on Australia’s Gold Coast, while Devaney has been named as the alternate.
Shawn Clarke joins the program as head Director, and will lead the team on the road. Clarke comes to the team with a background running junior programing at the Ottawa Bicycle Club and Equipe Cycliste Gatineau, and as a FIS level alpine ski coach. His versatile background makes him an ideal candidate to tackle the demands of fielding a nine-rider team at races across North America. Clarke is himself an alumni of the former Cyclery Racing men’s program which ran come 2011-2014, producing such notable alumni as Matteo Dal-Cin and Mike Woods
