Cycle Solutons DH#4 Race Report

August 20, 2008 – So what would happen….. would we finally make it through a weekend of DH racing without rain? With Blue Mtn’s slick clay base it would turn into ice storm like conditions, so finger were crossed!! The rain gods held off and we had our 2nd largest race in the history of the sport!! Best of all we raised $623 for the Stephen Lewis Foundations (Aids in Africa) and PlanetAir (World highest quality carbon credits).

The race run proved to be more demanding that most thought, as there were
plenty of broken parts and dirty jerseys at the end of race day.

In this weekends biggest O-Cup category, Cadet, we had a super competitive field of weekend warrior bad moustache wearin teenagers battling it out to be the king of the largest field. Kyle Sangers J and J Cycle) took first with a time that stood as the best of the day for a long time, 2nd was Mack Thompson (Arrow Racing) and 3rd was Pat McCarter.

1. Kyle Sangers 2:21.068
2. Mack Thompson 2.28.406
3. Pat McCarter 2:30 .063

Junior Expert saw some of the fastest times of the hill, with the #2 and #3 times of the day!!! Rob Fraser (poisonfrog.ca) pulled off a ripper of a run for first, Taylor Rowlands (Commencal) was just under 2 seconds behind for 2nd and Andrew Gotuaco (Primary) 3rd.

1. Rob Fraser (Posionfrog.ca) 2:16.207
2. Taylor Rowlands (Commencal) 2:18.272
3. Andrew Gotuaco (Primary) 2:18.565

The ladies saw a competitive field with nobody getting the easy win, Sheila Morris (cycle solutions) was able to pull out the win by 8 seconds over Kristen Courtney (poisonfrog.ca) and Steph Adams completed the podium in 3rd.

1. Sheila Morris (Cycle Solutions/Angry Johnny`s Racing) 2:38.372
2. Kristen Courtney (Poisonfrog.ca) 2:49.813
3. Stephanie Adams (Kamikaze Racing) 2:51.839

It was time for the Pro men and with some Quebec rippers in town, nobody knew who was going to take it. But it was Primary’s Drew Pautler who pulled off the fastest time of the day for 1st place, Zach (what the hell kinda time could I pull off on an actual DH bike )Tatem reeled in 2nd and Local ripper Ben Reasbeck (Kamikaze) took 3rd.

Cycle Solutons DH#4 – Race Report

July 22, 2008 – Well Folks, people were pretty nervous as they rolled into Camp Fortune, they Hills of Gatineau had been pounded by rain all week, what would the course look like!?? As friday night settled in a torrential downpour swept through, campers were treated with a waterpic massage right through their tents. However the amazing course work by Rob, Willy, Matt and Guillaume held up. The new upper jump section was intact and ready to go.

The newly remodeled Q-Cup course was super fast and furious with some wider lines taped top to bottom like a world cup ripper! We made it through the whole weekend without even a shower after an 80%POP forecast.

In the biggest O-Cup category, Junior Sport, we had a super competitive field of weekend warrior teenagers battling it out to be the king of the largest field. Alistair (I have the most englishman sounding name) Pimlott had a blazing time of 2:39 for the win. Adam Finalson was just a second behind for 2nd place and 3rd was gobbled up by Cam Loftus.

1. Alistair Pimlott (ON) Cycle Solutions/Angry Johnny`s Racing 2:39.071
2. Adam Finlayson (ON) 2:40.761
3. Cameron Loftus (ON) FH Racing 2:42.657

Junior Expert saw some amazing times come down the hill as this course dried up plenty enough to stick lines unrideable just a day before. Jonathan Lefracois pulled of an amazing 2:32 to take the very competitive cat, Rob Fraser (Poisonfrog.ca) was a solid second and Andrew Gotuaco pulled in a solid 3rd.

1. Jonathan Lefracois 2:32.834
2. Rob Fraser (ON) Poisonfrog.ca 2:34.640
3. Andrew Gotuaco (ON) Sweet Pete’s 2:40.124

The ladies saw a competitive field with nobody getting the easy win, Sheila Morris (cycle solutions) was able to pull out the win by 6 seconds over Kristen Courtney (poisonfrog.ca) and Steph Adams completed the podium in 3rd.

1. Sheila Morris (ON) Cycle Solutions/Angry Johnny`s Racing 3:29.085
2. Kristen Courtney (ON) Poisonfrog.ca 3:35.306
3. Stephanie Adams (ON) Kamikaze Racing 3:44.606

It was time for the Pro men and I don’t anybody knew who was the sure favourite, with the reigning course time record under Peter McCleans belt could he be the one on top of the podium, perhaps it would be Willy Cadham or Guillaume (course designers and locals) that would take the top spot. But NO!!!! it didn’t happen that way, in fact the first rider down Dean Tennant (Primary-Devinci) sat in the Industry Bike Park Hot seat through the entire field to take the fastest time of the day and first place! The other two fave’s pulled in the rest of the podium with Guillaume Soucy-Alarie (Morewood) in 2nd and Peter McLean (Primary-Devinci) in 3rd.

1. Dean Tennant (BC) Primary-Devinci 2:21.526
2. Guillaume Soucy-Alarie (QC) Morewood 2:23.484
3. Peter McLean (ON) Primary-Devinci 2:24.672

We can’t thank enough our amazing support staff, Lee Allen, Kris Somers (MC/DJ), Allan Hawley and his timing staff, First aid Pro Patrol and staff and ofcourse the amazing volunteers and sponsors: Cycle-Solutions.com Bike Store, Commencal Bikes, Norco Performance Bikes , Kenda Tires, Titec Components, Ontario Cycling Association, Dropmachine.com, Privateer Racing, To Wheels, Industry Bike park, Harvey’s, YODO bike, E-13, Atomlab, FUNN, Gamut, Trident, Azonic and CIBC.
