July 4, 2007 (Camp Fortune, QC) – It was a 10-minute trip into “La Belle Provence” for the 3rd stop on the Ontairo Cup DH Series – Cycle Solutions Ontario Cup Downhill #3 presented by Ventana and Foes bikes, held at Camp Fortune, QC on Sunday, July 1.

Camp fortune graced us with another amazing course, this time it was the famous “nationals” course, complete with huge upgrades like new berms and armouring!

The Canada Celebrations went on through the night in the camping area but it did not stop the riders on Sunday morning, we broke yet another attendance record with over 200 riders competing. The race had an international feel with racers from Finland, Australia, South Africa and France, some of them coming off the world cup in Mont Ste Anne.

In the elite men’s final it was a tight final group with Julius Sylvanen, the Finlandish rider, posting the fastest time of 2:23.980 early on. Local Pro Lee Boeyen then came down close but not close enough with a 2:25.356. But the owner of the course record was still at the top, last to come down, would he, could he do it! Yes Peter Mclean cleaned the field dipping into the teens! With a 2:19.200, an unbelievable time.

The Junior ex boys were rippin as well, it was Adrien Lavoie from QC posting the fastest time, with Willy (the camp fortune trail builder) Cadham just 2/10ths behind and Team Dropmachine/Commencals Matt Zdriluk in 3rd.

What a fantastic turnout with the ladies, we had our largest field ever with Gravitesse leading the way, this team is a huge asset to Ontario and Canadian racing, we were priviledged to have them all. Sheila mopped the field as usual coming hot off being the top canadian at Mont Ste Anne, Genevieve Gagnon eclipsed Sara Burke for second place by over 7 seconds.

Part 2: 4X #2 Pre- Race Report
July 14th will see a return to Saugeen Shores in Port Elgin (directions/accomodations at www.saugeenshoresbmx.com/contactus.html), this is seen as the best flowing 4X course in Ontario and they have just improved it in lane 3 with some new features so come on out to see this new course!
