release by the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario

March 11, 2013 – The Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO) is your one-stop shop for the country’s top experts in the field of sport science, strength and conditioning, nutrition, mental preparation, high performance sport funding, and achieving medal success. The CSIO is a member of a network of Canadian Sport Institutes across the country designed to enhance the daily training environment of Canada’s high performance athletes and coaches.

The CSIO is built on the understanding that bringing high performance athletes together and providing them with the daily personal and professional services they need helps produce podium results.  Based in Toronto, and moving to the new Pan Am aquatic facility in the summer of 2014, this state of the art facility will enhance the daily training environment for some of Canada’s top athletes and coaches.  In short, the institute turns sport investments from government and from groups like Own the Podium into the programs and services that help athletes achieve international success.

The Canadian Sport Institute Ontario is committed to the pursuit of excellence by providing world-class programs, services, and leadership to high performance athletes and coaches to enhance their ability to achieve international podium performances

Created by a unique national partnership between Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Coaching Association of Canada, and now Own the Podium, these sport institutes are also supported by provincial governments.   In short, the institutes turn sport investments from government and from groups like Own the Podium into the programs and services that help athletes achieve international success. Delivering world-class personal and professional services directly to athletes and coaches builds a proven pathway to podiums.  Institutes do not invest in capital construction or facilities, but in service and business partnerships to ensure that resources are delivered directly to the athletes and coaches where they live and train.

The CSIO is committed to building a stronger high performance sport system in Ontario.  The new multi-sport training and competition facility will enhance the ability to help athletes reach their full potential in advance of The Toronto 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games. It will serve as a hub for national team training, yet also remain focused on putting more Ontario athletes onto these national teams (Forty two Ontario athletes – 27 Olympic and 15 Paralympic – returned from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games with medals). The atmosphere will be athlete-centered, coach-led, performance-focused, and science/medicine-supported.  The CSIO will be a game-changer for high performance sport in this province and in this country.
