Cross on the Rock News #19 – Happy Holidays!

release by Cross on the Rock

December 22, 2009 (Nanaimo, BC) – OK. OK. I Thought the last Update that we did (#18) would be it for the year but a few things came up so I thought I would fire one more off for the year… and that will be it!

MAILING LIST: First of all and before I get into the update. If you no longer want to get these e-mails please let me know as I will be updating my mailing list before we start to fire updates out next year… and if you don’t want 19 e-mails from the cross series now is the time to let me know.

We would like to also wish everyone the best in the Holiday Season. We hope to see you out on the roads, trails or up on the ski hill at the Raven Lodge. I hope Santa is good to you and brings you a KONA Major Jake in Scandium or at least some sweet parts from FSA!

We great representation at the provincial championships at the end of November with our cross on the rock’ers. Some provincial jerseys. Quite a few podiums… and a great course close to Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal… a great way to finish off the season….

BUT if you don’t yet want to finish your season there are still a couple (at least one) more race that you can do before you totally pack it up….

1) Two more races!
Well the first one is more of an “event”. From one of the first organizers of cross in BC, Dave Cressman: “haven’t decided. will be a ride for sure, but maybe not an event. Maybe allude to a happening in East Van on boxing day”. If you are going to be in the Lower Mainland on Boxing day… and you have your cross bike with you… David Cressman [cressman@telus.net]

The second one is really an organized race, not too far away, in Bellingham on January 16th. Click here for more info.

2) COOL Calendars
From Jamie Cameron
Using photos from the Wednesday night cross club practice sessions and the cross on the rock races this year I’ve put together a 2010 calendar. I have ordered a batch of 50 calendars, they are 8.5″ wide by 11″ high, have a spiral binding at the top and a hole punched so you can hang them on the wall. I have done everything a bit last minute but they should be ready on Friday (18th December) and I’ll get them to the Trek Victoria store so they can be collected from Saturday onwards. I can probably distribute a few by special request but it is easiest to keep them in one place.

They are printed on a good quality card, have picture of you and/or your friends cross racing and are only $20 each, the money made from them will be donated back into island cross racing.

I have a list of people who have promised they will buy one and a list of people who have pre-paid, reserving is tricky as I’d prefer not to be left with calendars if people pull out, but I’ll do my best, that said drop me an email if you would like me to hold one aside. jamiec79@gmail.com

3) Introducing Tycho Simms Thibault
Just in case you did not hear, Wendy and I welcomed Tycho Thibault into the world on December 5th. Perfect timing as it gave us exactly 1 week to get our sh*t together after the cross season!! Tycho is doing great once we let him know that he did not have to decrease his weight right away to optimize his power to weight ratio… he can wait a few years and eat guilt-free for now.

We have word that 3 of the top four from the women’s category in 2008 is now pregnant… so we look forward to having all those new moms back killing it next fall and a kids push bike category in 3 years. Remember the Belgies have them on bikes as soon as they can hold their heads up and grip the handlebars… clock is ticking!
