Cross on the Rock #3 — Beban Park Info

October 31, 2007 – The Cross on the Rock series resumes this weekend with our longest standing event at Beban Park. This was the site of the first official cross race held on the Island some four years ago now. The course will be slightly different from last year as the barn and equestrian areas will be in use for the day but, as usual, we will find SOMETHING to challenge you with. We do ask that you avoid riding in any area where there are horses being let to and from the barn. We will try to put some signage up. The registration area will be slightly different as well, but we will put a sign or two up and you should be able to find us.

Lots of information to update you on:

Photos

We have been getting a tonne of e-mails and questions in person that people have been missing the photo links for our races. In case you didn’t know, we have a gallery that we throw photos up located here.

Also, for our last event in Duncan a few people posted photos on different sites: Peter McCaffery’s photos are here and James Williams’ here.

Beban Park Race Information

– REMEMBER the time change on Saturday night! That means an extra hour to sleep, catch the ferry and tune your cross bike.
– The technical race guide will be posted on our web site in the next 24 hours with all the information that you need to know about the event.

FREE Beginners Race

For Race #3 of the 2007 Cross on the Rock Series at Beban Park, we are offering anyone that has a valid Cycling BC club license or regular racing license a FREE race. This offer is open to anyone that has a license and has never done one of our cross races before and wants to come out and try it out. This is only for the beginner category. We don’t want to see any Cat. 1 or 2 or MTB Expert racers come out and demo this category. It is to encourage people to come out and try cross NOT to demolish them by sandbagging the beginner category!

IF you want to try out the beginner category BUT you do not have a license, then we will need to sign you up for a club at registration.

Cash and Prizes

We are PLEASED to announce CASH! Through the generosity of the Turkey Cross race organizers, Oak Bay Bikes in Victoria and Elitewave.com, we have a bit of cash. For the last three races of the series, there will be $100 cash for the winner of the men’s expert race and the women’s race.

Winners takes all for the last three events!!

Series Points

We have 78 riders currently ranked in the series after two events. Check out all the points and leaders by clicking here.

Help and Volunteers

We will be out at Beban on Saturday afternoon doing course set up and work and, as always, we could use a hand – as well as on Sunday for the usual set up, timing, registration and tear down. Let us know if you can help out. One thing that we have been super impressed with at the first two races is how much everyone pitches in after the racing to get the course taken down. That is super cool and very helpful. We hope to keep this pattern up through the next three events.

Nationals and Provincials

It was super cool to see so many of the racers from the Cross on the Rock series do so well at Nationals and Provincials in Kamloops. One of our major goals for the series was to develop cross at all levels, and with the awesome performances from racers in our series at these events it is positive feedback that we are on the right track.

Our series sponsors are:
Oak Bay Bikes in Nanaimo and Victoria
Frontrunners Nanaimo
Lighthouse Brewery
Norco
Converse All Star
The Howard Johnson
Crankbrothers
