Masters Results
You may have figured out that the master’s results from Sunday were in the correct order BUT the wrong times. Sean Crookshank was closer to 52 minutes than 36. What happened was our trusty Timex stop watch that was timing the Master’s race died part way through it. CPR was administered BUT no luck. So the placings were all correct BUT the times were basically made up to satisfy the spreadsheet and keep you all in place. Bummer… but these things happen from time to time… low tech or high tech… there are always glitches!
Lost and Found
I seemed to have ended up with a few more new items from last weekend… I would LOVE to get rid of them… if they are yours please let me know how to get them to you.

COTR SEASON #7 WRAP UP
– Top Rookie: Parker Bloom
– Top JR Male: Jordan Duncan
– Top JR Female: Taryn Cote
– Most Improved: Janna Gillick
It has been a great season of racing… the numbers and stories tell the tale. We are looking forward to next year and starting planning already. It is great to be part of COTR and have such a passionate bunch of people racing, helping and sponsoring. We could not do it without you!
A VERY Special Thanks to:
Hilary and Steve Grant. We received Hilary as a volunteer a couple of years ago at Cumberland… and we are not giving her up! The reason why our low tech timing system works is primary because of Hilary’s coolness under pressure. Her husband Steve is also invaluable allowing Hilary to help while he is the pit crew to the boys!! Plus he helps with the timing sometimes too.
Jamie Cameron and Glenowyn Carlson help with data input at registration allowing Rolland and Katie to race… key people
Roland and Katie Rabien stepped up when I retired from putting on races 3 years ago… can I retire now??
Vegan Dave for doing all the reports to the press. They don’t seem to like the ones I do… so he does stuff they do like.
Our race directors: Curtis Saunders, Roland Rabien, Peter McCaffery, Lee Blais, Mike and Tara Pollock, Corey and Sean from OBB-Nanaimo and Drew MacKenzie.
And Thanks to Our Series Sponsors
Cycles Lambert (Leyzne). Peter Creighton has been a LONG time supporter of this series….from WAY-WAY back. We tap out his promotion budget and then some and he always does as much as he possibly can for us and our prizing.
Zed Wheels. Brad Head builds sweet wheels and comes out and races too. He gave us two sets of wheels for our finals this year as well as other swag throughout the season.
Action Motorcycles. Jamie Emery is another sponsor/racer who has supported the series with great prizing as well as helping us out when ever he can.
Frontrunners Nanaimo… well without their support their would be no series. We even got the Frontrunners Westshore guys out this year racing!
Hammer Nutrition. New sponsor this year providing product and prizing… we hope to have them back on board again next year.
KONA. One of the highlights of the season was having long time supporter Dik Cox come out and do his first EVER cross race at the Kona Kup!
Howard Johnson. Dan Brady… we ALMOST got him to race… ALMOST. Thanks to the Howard Johnson for their prizes and room rate deals.
Nutcase. Sponsor of the ‘Lil nutty kids races with prizes and support. Thanks Elladee and Joele
Oak Bay Bikes. A few of our sponsors are through the support of OBB. Plus Corey and Sean are the RD’s for the Kona Kup. OBB-Westshore sponsor Pelle’s edits with $$… which is KEY.
Parkside Victoria. Jim Pearson did not make it out to a race this year… but he has supported our events and cycling on Vancouver Island for a LONG-LONG time. Thanks for the prizes Jim!
Phillips BEER… sponsor of our Barriers this year… and the first lap prime… and the first Single Speeder… we always welcome their support and drink their beer!
Saltspring Coffee. Bryn has moved jobs from Saltspring Coffee but while he was there and even when he knew he was going… he worked hard to make sure we were covered. Thanks Bryn!! We don’t know who is taking over for Bryn or if Saltspring will be involved next year…..but we thank them for their support over the years.
Orange Sport Supply. Greg Inkster actually supported our races BEFORE we were the COTR series… WAY back in 2004!! It took us a few years and a LOT of e-mails to get him back on board, but we hope to have him as a longtime partner for years to come.
PHOTO CONTEST
HERE is the Gallery from the photo contest.
The winner was Patrick Burnham’s photo of “rubbing is racing” featuring HALLDOR.
Thanks to everyone that was out taking photos throughout the season and those that shared their galleries with us.
CYCLING BC AND THE AGM THIS WEEKEND
There is a group called “the future of cycling in BC”. Check it out if you can and if you like it and if you haven’t already signed the petition of support for this group you can do so here:
HERE it is.
Here is their mandate:
Many in the cycling community believe that Cycling BC is not fulfilling their mandate to “foster quality competition from the grass-roots through to high performance levels, and encourage partnerships to grow participation in the sport of cycling”. Further, there is widely shared opinion that the culture within the organization must change before there is any possibility that its mandate can be fulfilled. Cycling BC has a responsibility to uphold its relationship with its membership, stakeholders and the public. In order to maintain and strengthen these relationships the organization must improve its communication and transparency with each of these groups.
A group of like-minded individuals, with a passion to see cycling grow and succeed in this province, has been organised to help return Cycling BC to its mission statement, and become an organization that prides itself on building the sport from the grassroots, fostering growth, supporting clubs, and being an active leader at all levels.
The group, the Future of Cycling in British Columbia, firmly believes that Cycling BC must become an organization that champions development at all levels, for all disciplines, and fosters lifelong participation in the sport. To this end, the Group has assembled a slate of like-minded candidates for four open board of director positions that will be elected at the upcoming Cycling BC annual general meeting. The candidates, with the support of the Group, are putting together a plan focused on four specific areas: Development, Participation, Clubs, and Communications.
Change within Cycling BC will only occur under the governance of a like-minded Board of Directors committed to that change. Four board positions are up for re-election at the AGM on Sunday December 2nd, a slate of candidates who are all committed to the goal of initiating positive change at Cycling BC. We are asking for your support by attending the AGM and voting for ALL of the following individuals for their respective positions.
– VP FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT – Tony Martin
– VP CYCLO CROSS – Matt Klymson
– VP ROAD/TRACK – Tim Abercrombie
– VP BMX – Jeff Clarke
