Crabtree to Host Olympic BMX Qualifier in 2007

December 22, 2006 – Also announced at the 34th Annual Gala Sports Québec held Wednesday in Laval, QC, the small Quebec town of Crabtree, about 65-km northeast of Montreal, will host an Olympic qualifying event in 2007.

The event, scheduled for July 2007 and organized by the Club BMX de Crabtree, is the final of ten similar races in North America. This puts Crabtree on the road to the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. Crabtree will also be a mandatory competition for riders that want to compete at the 2007 BMX World Championships in Victoria, B.C. from July 23-29, 2007

Crabtree is not new to being in the national spotlight for BMX events. In 2006, BMX Canada’s selection process for selecting riders to send to the BMX Worlds in Sao Paulo, Brazil, involved calculating the highest BMX UCI scores from events in Airdrie, AB and Crabtree, QC with Crabtree being the tie-breaker.
