COTR#6 The Binab Property Group GP at Western Speedway. November 11th. PREVIEW
We’ve all been working long and hard organizing this race. Time to reveal what’s being going on behind the scenes.
The Course:
A modified version of last years’ course with (possibly) less derailleur destroying mud. Westshore MX has improved the drainage on the motocross course and we’ve selected a few choice mud pits rather than subjecting racers to relentless mud. New additions to the course include; A wide motocross style start on dirt. An almost UCI legal sized flyover. A dirt stair run-up carved into the side of a huge dirt mound. Walls of tires that must be navigated around. Hill speed sections on the oval.
Check the Facebook Event for more more teasers HERE.
The Prizes:
Jason Binab and Trek Pro City have rounded up a great selection of prizes including:
– A $600 prize purse for Expert and Open Women categories from EBOOST & Hugo Donais of Sun Life Financial. Cash will go 5 deep: $125, $75, $50, $30, $20.
– A Trek Ion CX Cyclocross Bike.
– Product from Zed Wheels, EBOOST, Popeye’s and Rumble.
– 180 tickets to a Victoria Grizzlies game.
– Gift certificates to Prime Steak Housem Cactus Club, Luv Hair Salon, Victory Barber and Brand, Modern Beauty Supplies, hotel stays from Water’s Edge Resort in Ucluelet, boutique hotel L’Hermitage Hotel in Vancouver, and more.
Food:
Renaat of Wannawafel will be serving his authentic Belgian Waffles. Rumble will be on site with samples and Westshore Motocross will have their concession open. Bring a few bucks. It’s probably not going to be ice cream weather, but Mr. Tubbs is just across the parking lot.
Bikeshop Challenge:
One hot lap for all the bragging rights. Bike shop employees only. Report to the start line at 11:45am.
The Pits:
Come early to set up your tents in the pits near the flyover to be in the center of the action. Once racing is underway vehicle access will be limited so show up before 10:30 to get set up.
The Racing:
As always, it’s going to be full throttle. Bring your A game.
PLEASE NOTE:
Remembrance Day
Wear your Poppies but please make sure they are secure. We don’t want anyone’s race ruined by a flat on a $130 tubular because of a pin.
Race Schedule will be adjusted slightly from our regular one to have our minute of silence at 11:00. The Beginners will be called up for staging after that. Please observe that moment with us to remember the women and men that gave their lives for the freedoms that we enjoy today.
Rock Star Registration
Open until 6:00pm on Saturday if you want to save time and paper on race day. Makes your day a bit more smooooooooth. Link HERE.
Bring a FEW extra BUCKS to the race this Sunday (for a Waffle as well as for this 🙂
At the Binab GP COTR#6, on November 11th we will be collecting money as part of a BC Cross Community Collective Effort to pump up and benefit our cross racers that come to the National Championships on November 17th and the UCI race on November 18th.
Our goals are FIRST to ensure that there is equal prize money for men and women to 15th place at the UCI race on November 18th in South Surrey. (I think we have already achieved this with our “public Pressure”)
Our SECOND Goal is that if the first goal is reached we want to put our remaining funds towards offering a prize purse for the National Champs on November 17th (Equal men and women of course).
Currently there is no prize purse required by regulations for Nationals, and so cash prizing is not currently being offered. (It is an expensive race weekend to put on with the UCI event etc. so we understand the budget constraints) BUT we would also like help to change that for the National Champs this year as they are being hosted in our Province.
The Cross Community feels that it benefits everyone; the racers, the event, cycling and specifically cross to make these things happen.
SO our events along with the events listed above will all have a bucket for donations at registration. Bring an extra few bucks and throw it in there. We are a strong part of the cross community in BC and we want to show our support for these events as best we can.
We have already had support and donations from both the provincial championships last weekend with the Atomic Cycling Club and West Coast Racing through the Vanier Park Cross race so the ball is rolling on this and we are going to make it happen!!

Are you in Vancouver on Saturday, November 10th and want to DOUBLE UP YOUR WEEKEND!
I have been “reminded” by my good friend and EV GP Race director, Jak New, that he has made 5 COTR events and I have made 0 of his… shame! With the work I need to do Saturday in preparations….chances are I will not make his race on Saturday either. Kim Steed told me it is his favorite course so I am bummed as it sounds great. I can pass on the information though in case you are making an Ikea run on Saturday before our race Sunday and want to get in one more kick ass event.
