Competition Is Smoking At 2007 Test of Metal

February 7, 2007 – It won’t only be cyclists competing at this year’s North Shore Credit Union Test of Metal. Race director Cliff Miller announced that the Pacific Northwest BBQ Association (PNWBA) will be holding a one day cook-off at the finish line marketplace of this year’s Test.

“Barbecuing and biking are a natural pairing,” said Miller whose bi-weekly toonie race barbecues have become legendary in Squamish’s mountain-bike community. The competition for this inaugural event should be fierce. “We’re expecting some of the top teams from the Pacific Northwest competing in this ribs and chicken cook-off,” said Wayne Fettback of the PNWBA. Some local challengers have already thrown down the oven mitt. “We’ll have at least one Squamish entry,” Miller said. “Our timer and Gearjammer race director, Curtis Roberts, has already asked for a bullit smoker next to him at the timing tent so that he could enter.”

The entry fee to compete in the cook-off is $20.00. Information about barbecue competitions can be found at the Pacific Northwest BBQ Association website: http://www.pnwba.com/ . Miller also said that the Test of Metal is looking for interested people to join the Test Pilot crew. “The Test Pilots are the group of people who make this race come together, and we’re always looking for new people who have some time and energy to volunteer,” said Miller.
