March 20, 2019 (Las Tunas, Cuba) – Legendary Canadian cycling coach and founding member of St. Catherine’s Cycling Club, Colin Hearth, is being honoured and remembered at the inaugural Colin Hearth Memorial Race, April 10-13, in Las Tunas, Cuba. Having coached some of Canada’s top riders including Karen Strong, Gord Singleton, and Steve Bauer, Heath was a pivotal part of the Ontario cycling community throughout the 1970s.
Among his accomplishments, Hearth also served as president of the OCA (Ontario Cycling Association) in the early 90s and sat on the Board of the Canadian Cycling Association for nearly two decades. As well he was a road and track champion back in England where he was born. Hearth, 83, unexpectedly passed away in 2016 at a hospital in Las Tunas where he resided.The race has been organized in his memory and begins on April 10 with a 10km prologue throughout the heart of the city. Riders will then compete in a 50km road race on April 11, and a 20km criterium on April 12. Awards ceremonies will be held after every race, along with a final memorial on the last day of the Memorial Race.
